the gospel in the gospel

This weekend I'm teaching in a youth group out in California and they told me I can teach on any passage I'd like. That's actually more difficult than being given a specific direction, mostly because now I have to choose between a million "favorites". But I know what I am going to do, because I must. I have to teach on Luke 15. I just have to. I've done it before, and it's probably not my "best talk", whatever that means, but I can't not teach on it. Does that make sense? No it doesn't. It's my story, and yours too, but its mostly mine ;) It's the one that when I first read it I knew I'd never be the same. I'd never see God the same. And I didn't even know the context of the story that first time, and the context makes the whole thing explode with life and meaning. It has been called "the gospel in the gospel", because it's that good. It's so well known, and we all know that familiarity can neuter the power of a story (or relationship, or song, or...). But it's new to me every time I read it.
